It's
a Funny old World
Some years ago a Christian group produced a record that became a best selling song, despite experiencing the same kind of active resistance as did Cliff Richard's Millennium prayer. The title of the record was quite appropriately - " One rule for you, one rule for me".
We have all noted the increasing content on our TV channels of material of an increasingly immoral, explicit and bizarre nature. Some channels setting aside evenings to showcase perverted behaviour. The vulgar language being used increasingly in other material seeming to be seeking desperate new ways to shock.
Yet incredibly whilst this 'anything goes' attitude is the rule for some, when Christians speak out, protest or declare the unchanging truths as taught by Jesus they are attacked. There does seem to be increasingly "one rule for you, and one rule for me".
Earlier this year the Dream family Christian TV channel were fined £20,000 for expressing views from the Bible in an advert. A half hour information advert for a prayer conference in London! This is the first time for generations, and within living memory, that Christians in England , have been fined for expressing views from the Bible !
Whilst as Christians we take a joy in standing against prejudice, we cannot be swallowed into the PC attitude of anything goes, the increasing chaos in our society as a result of a moving away from Gods order is evidence enough for this.
A fact some may not realise, is that as fellowship of Born Again Christians in 2000 AD we find ourselves facing conditions similar to when the Church began in the first Century. Then society was marked by sexual immorality, and by the tolerance of all manner of lifestyles and 'gods'. Tolerance to all except the Christians who were sharing a faith that lovingly pointed others to the Lord of Lords.
"What goes around comes around" and it is encouraging to note that just as the first Christians, who were persecuted for standing for the unchanging gospel of Jesus , saw the ancient world transformed by many recognising the truth of the Gospel and becoming strong believers. So today there are more people being born again and turning from their old ways to Gods new way for them.
As a Church we shall continue to preach the message & values of Jesus. As Pastor it is my aim and privilege to both preach the gospel way and encourage others breaking loose from the stranglehold of much of today's living to live life in a new dimension.
