January 2001
Years ago a famous book, called "Pilgrims Progress" was written. It told the story of one man's journey in life. Seeking to go in the right direction but so often being side-tracked or taken captive, by such colourful characters as "Giant despair", held in "doubting castle" or getting stuck in a swamp called "the slough of despond".
How is your journey going?
New Year is a good time to assess where am I now & where am I heading. A recent survey found 85% of the population pray. Many are also seeing beyond a purely materialistic life as an end in itself - one man sadly noting, "I am not myself, I am what I have". John Naisbitt, an influential researcher of contemporary trends in society wrote "As a society we are moving from the old to the new and we are still caught in motion ... people are looking for something to hang on to, not something to debate".
How is your journey going?
Here at EPPING FOREST CHURCH we are a congregation of fellow travellers.
Learning together, praying together, sharing together. As Pastor here I look forward to sharing with you on the road that lies before us on into the New Year.
On any journey it's always great to have a place were you can rest and be secure. Nationally, there is an emphasis this month on the plight of the Homeless. As a Church we are supporting this initiative with special events on the weekend of Homelessness Sunday 27th/28th. I hope you will be able to join in these practical FAITH IN ACTION events. If you believe in FAITH IN ACTION and have no local Church Home why not come along and discover if this could be your local spiritual HOME?
